Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
